I've been DYING to share some of the behind the scenes with you guys for summer. I'm just sitting over here like...where is the summer Scottish sun?! Every year we have a couple days or a week long warm spell and it's the magic I am trying to capture with the new line! This is the first official summer release I have ever put out so I am really excited to share some of the illustrated work I've been working on and LOTS of fabulous new product lines!
Today I wanted to share some of the behind the scenes on how I got inspiration for summer, create new prodcuts, choose pieces for the shop, and all that jazz!
Summer has always been super hard for me to create for in the past as there were no major holidays or anything going on. When I sat down to create the first Highland + Honey summer release I wanted to create a palette and emotion through my own personal experiences. I always write a big messy list of what the season means to me. I grew up in a lake town, sailing almost every day, hanging out on the dock and eating yummy food out on the porch. Since I can't make it 'home home' this summer I wanted to bring the magic of these summers to life through the new line.
My favorite thing about summer was always throwing on a soft tee and grabbing a coffee with my mom before heading off to my job as a sailing instructor at the other end of the lake. I used to do kayaking as well with my friend Heather. She would make Dunking for me (I was convinced her coffee tasted better than mine) and we would head out the lake to chat. It was always so peaceful and magical.
Next I like to pull lots of images for a mood board around the list I've made! For me, summer means fire pits, pink sunsets, warmth on your skin, fresh produce, honey bees buzzin in the garden, the smell of soil, walks into the city centre, beer gardens, and lots of adventuring. I pull a ton of imagery so I can get an idea of colors I am loving and product ideas I've been mulling over. These images always allow me to get pulled in a certain direction as I always have a million ideas I need to narrow down for launch!
Without giving too much away I had some products, pre pandemic, that I really wanted to explore again along with some summer vibes I wanted to try for the shop for the first time.
These are some of the images I pulled for summer! Maybe you guys can get a couple hints for things I am going to be bringing to the shop this season? I'll be sharing little drips and drops of new pieces over on Instagram leading up to release.
The new summer line is launching May 10th at 7PM! You guys can follow all the peeks and hints over on @highlandandhoney! You can also set your alarm or sign up to the newsletter to get a reminder.
